Argun Gorge

Argun Gorge

One of the longest and deepest gorges in the Caucasus. Stretches along the Argun River for dozens of kilometers.

History

Preserves medieval towers, necropolises, and shrines from the 12th–15th centuries. According to ancient legend, Vainakh architecture was born here.

Safety

Note: the southern part of the gorge is a border zone. Foreign citizens need a permit (issued by the FSB 60 days in advance).
