Seasons and Weather in Chechnya
Climate and Weather
Chechnya has three climate zones: plains, foothills, and highlands.
Plains (Grozny, Argun, Gudermes)
- Summer — hot, up to +35°C
- Winter — mild, down to -5°C
- Precipitation — even throughout the year
Foothills (Shali, Kurchaloy)
- Cooler than the center by 3-5°C
- Fog in autumn and spring
- Snow — stable from December
Highlands (Vedeno, Shatoy, Itum-Kali)
- Summer — cool, +15-20°C
- Winter — harsh, down to -25°C
- Snow — from November to April
- Sharp day/night temperature drops
Tourist seasons

What to bring for each season
Spring (March–May)
Raincoat + rubber boots. Mountains still have snow, city is melting.
Summer (June–August)
- Light clothing (but long!)
- Sun protection mandatory
- Swimsuit for Kezenoy-Am
Autumn (September–November)
- Warm fleece
- Raincoat
- Comfortable shoes for trails
Winter (December–February)
- Down jacket
- Warm footwear
- Hat, gloves
Tip: for mountains, always pack warm clothing — even in summer nights are cold.
